Job description

MLG has an immediate opening for a Litigation Paralegal/Case Manager. The Paralegal assists lawyers in preparing and organizing various legal documents for upcoming trials. Their main duties include preparing affidavits and correspondence, discussing case details with attorneys and clients, and organizing different files for different legal proceedings.

Duties

  • Assist to summarize cases and prepare reports for attorneys.

  • Conduct research, investigate facts, and assist in developing both legal arguments and law and motion.

  • Draft legal documents such as meet and confer letters, motions to compel, and discovery responses.

  • Prepare and file documents with courts.

  • Organize and archive the documents related to completed and ongoing cases (including Bates stamp).

  • Prepare case “care package”, keep track of changes in legal framework, provide timely updates on these changes and prepare privilege logs.

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Self-starter with the ability to effectively manage multiple matters at once.

  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet presentation, and case management software.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

  • Investigative mind and strong research skills.

  • Working knowledge of legal database software.

  • Experience in preparing legal reports.

  • Discretion and confidentiality.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of related experience, litigation preferred.

  • Paralegal certification preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Supervisors

The Senior Litigation Associate and VP of Litigation.

Status

Full time, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This position requires the ability to work evenings and weekends, which often cannot be predicted in advance.

Location

Beautiful office environment in the Segerstrom Performing Arts Center, across from South Coast Plaza, in Costa Mesa, California.

Job description

MLG has an immediate opening for a Staff Associate. A Staff Associate assists the team in managing multiple cases. This role will assist in preparing litigation reports and risk assessments, draft legal documents, and make court appearances on behalf of our clients. This role focus areas are M&C, Motions, Privilege Logs, Form and Letter Drafting, Subpoenas, Discovery Summaries, Research and Complaints.

Duties

  • Assist in providing case evaluation, legal support, and guidance.

  • Assist in preparing litigation reports and risk assessments.

  • May attend hearings, depositions, and other court appearances.

  • Attending focus groups.

  • Stay informed about any current legislation.

  • Building trustworthy relationships with clients and experts.

  • Drafting legal documents such as depositions, pleadings, and contracts in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Drafting and finalizing complaints, meet and confer letters, motions to compel and discovery responses.

  • Assist in negotiating low-level settlements and attend mediations.

  • Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.

  • Assist in interviewing clients and witnesses and prepares summaries of their statements.

  • Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.

  • Gathers and assists in preparing new client questionnaire “care packages”, correspondence and documents to experts.

  • Assists attorneys with trial preparation, which may include attending trials and hearings.

  • Develops and maintains records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Ad hoc duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Credentials from an ABA accredited law school.

  • Active license to practice law/membership in CA State Bar.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.

  • Maintain strong attention to detail.

  • Achieve a high level of productivity with great accuracy.

  • Meet assigned deadlines and communicate case progress to team.

  • Contribute to a positive work environment.

  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience

  • 1-2 years of related experience, litigation preferred.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in litigation, with a proven track record of success in the courtroom. This role requires exceptional legal acumen, strong leadership skills, and the ability to handle complex legal issues. The candidate will also oversee associate attorneys and meet with clients.

Duties

  • Preparing cases for jury trials.

  • Attending hearings in state and federal court.

  • Taking and defending depositions.

  • Attending mediations.

  • Working with expert witnesses.

  • Attending focus groups.

  • Drafting law and motion.

  • Drafting all trial-related pleadings, including jury instructions, motions in limine and trial briefs.
