TIRE SEPARATION
Michelin first introduced steel-belted tires in 1948, and since that time they have become the standard in the industry. Constructed with nylon and reinforced with steel fabric, the technology promised longer-lasting tire wear and better fuel efficiency.
With the advancement of this technology, there also came an onslaught of tire separation cases – defects in the tire that cause the rubber and steel to separate. The problem is particularly pronounced when a vehicle is driving at high speeds and in hot weather.
The most notorious instance of tire separation cases came in the 1990s when both Firestone and Ford came under attack for failing to recall tires on Ford Explorer vehicles that were known to separate. In matters that elevated to Department of Transportation investigations and Congressional hearings, Firestone and Ford were found to have provided misleading information to consumers about the nature of tire separations they were experiencing.
At MLG, we have the knowledge and experience to handle complex tire separation defect cases. If you or a loved one have been injured by a vehicle that experienced tire separation, contact us for a free consultation. Our team of vehicle defect attorneys will immediately review your matter and let you know if you are entitled to compensation.
